Piano Teacher Jobs In Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Piano Institute is Hiring

The Philadelphia Piano Institute, one of Philly’s most sought-after destinations for piano lessons, is looking for an experienced Piano Instructor to teach at our Queen Village studio.

We love helping children and adults become confident, independent pianists, and to that end, we teach hobbyists and highly motivated pianists alike. Our community of students includes Philadelphia residents of all ages, walks of life, and goals.

Our Mission: Growing Confident, Independent Musicians

Our Core Teaching Beliefs

Our students come to us to learn how to express themselves musically on the piano. They receive holistic instruction so they can sight read, play by ear, play with healthy and professional technique, understand music theory, and more. We do NOT create robots who simply learn 1-2 “show” pieces per year by rote. We want our students to be confident enough to eventually sight read music, choose their own repertoire, and learn it on their own.

  • We believe in holistic piano teaching

  • There is no “single, right way” to learn piano - principles, not a specific published method, guide us

  • We help students reach their goals, whether they want to sight read Chopin, learn pop tunes, or write music

  • Instructor-student rapport is key. Instructors at PPI care about their students and are personally invested in their musical success

What We Are Looking For in Our Teachers

General Qualifications

Our instructors enjoy teaching children, teens, and adults, and they have the same level of enthusiasm for each age bracket. We love our diverse student community at the Institute!

Secondly, our instructors genuinely care about their students and their successes. We prioritize a friendly, personable teaching style to create a secure learning environment for each student equally.

Thirdly, our instructors respect the goals of their students. Some of our students want to play concertos, others want to learn a set of holiday tunes for fun - we love helping anyone find joy at the piano, regardless of their goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach children, teens and adults in a one-one-one lesson format

  • Teach live online lessons if/when necessary

  • Perform one piece of repertoire at annual studio recitals and maintain a high level of playing overall

  • Remain committed to ongoing education and pedagogical improvement

Educational Requirements

  • Masters degrees in piano pedagogy are preferred. Other MMus degrees may be considered with commensurate experience.

  • We may consider teachers with a BMus degree if they present outstanding teaching experience and pedagogical knowledge

Professional Experience

  • Experience teaching the piano to children and adults

  • Private lesson experience is mandatory, group piano teaching experience is a bonus

  • Supervised experience in a piano teaching practicum is preferred

Compensation + Benefits

  • Teach on a beautiful grand piano in our uplifting studio space

  • Due to our high volume of lesson inquiries, we can start you a number of students right away

  • Pay starts at $32/hour and up, depending on experience

  • The opportunity to contribute by-lined articles and research to the Philadelphia Piano Institute blog (you will be compensated)
